Drake has been tapped to host the 2014 ESPYs. The 22nd annual awards show for ESPN will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on July 16.

This feels like a long time coming for Drake, who hasn't been shy about referencing his favorite teams and athletes in his music. Just last week, Drake released his "Draft Day" freestyle, which celebrated college stars and soon-to-be pro athletes Johnny Manziel and Andrew Wiggins. He also attended the NCAA men's basketball championship game between Kentucky and Connecticut on Monday, though his Wildcats ended up losing.

Drake will be the third musical act to host the ESPYs. Justin Timberlake was the Master of Ceremonies in 2008, while actor/singer Jamie Foxx handled hosting duties from 2003-2004.

UPDATE 4/9/14 8:43PM: Drake appeared on ESPN NBA Countdown tonight, and spoke about hosting the upcoming ESPYs. During the conversation, Drizzy also cleared up the Internet rumor that he was wearing a UConn shirt after Monday's NCAA national championship game. Check out some of the footage below.
