Driver in SXSW Hit and Run Formally Charged With One Count of Capital Murder

Rashard Charjuan Owens, the 21-year-old man who was identified as the suspect in the SXSW hit and run, has been formally charged with one count of capital murder, according to the Austin newspaper the Statesmen. That is the highest criminal charge you can receive in the state of Texas. He initially faced two counts, as well as 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.

Owens' accident left 22 people injured, not 23 as previously reported.
