It's been nearly eight years since Detroit artist J Dilla died of lupus at the age of 32. Still, his music and life continues to inspire many to this day, including his former group Slum Village. Today (Feb. 7), which would have been Dilla's 40th birthday, they pay tribute to their friend with "Yes Yes," a mellow record that features vintage production from Dilla. "Yes Yes" serves as the first record from their upcoming album, which will include additional production from Black Milk and Young RJ.

Later tonight, the third annual Dilla Day Detroit will take place at the Fillmore in Detroit. The celebratory event will include performances from De La Soul and Slum Village, as well as a DJ battle between DJ Premier and Pete Rock. For more info on the event, visit here.
