Nas was honored at the VIBE Impact Awards last night in Los Angeles. As part of the celebration, guests such as Busta Rhymes, No I.D., and Swizz Beatz were present. J. Cole also attended. Representing a younger generation that came up listening to Nas, Cole explained how the Queens rapper became his favorite, after initially being a West Coast rap fan due to his stepfather's listening tendencies. It was Cole's cousin who convinced him to listen to Nas. The first song he ever heard was "I Gave You Power," and that was a song that he immediately gravitated towards.

Later on in the evening, Nas would return the honor by saying that Cole was leading a new vanguard of lyricists to the forefront of hip-hop.
