Charlamagne Tha God is the type of guy who can make rappers bristle at the mention of his name. For a profile about the Power 105 personality in today's edition of The New York Times, it was revealed that when asked for comment, Lil' Kim hung up the at the word "Charlamagne." The story takes an in-depth look at his career, from its beginnings in South Carolina to his emergence in the hip-hop industry after overcoming several stints in jail, including his time working for no pay for Wendy Williams: “They told me they couldn’t pay me but they’d get me a place to stay. I was like, ‘Cool,’ because I recognized the opportunity.”
This led to his current job as one of the hosts of Power 105's The Breakfast Club—on which he recently made waves for sparring with Kanye West. And his irrepressible personality has earned him his own talk show, Charlamagne and Friends. The MTV2 program will air next year. Says MTV2 Senior Vice President of Programming and Development, Paul Ricci, “He’s a unique, honest, authentic individual. They don’t come around that often.”
