Last night Travi$ Scott was a participant in the BET Hip-Hop Award's cypher session alongside Action Bronson, Lil Kim and a few other emerging rap talents.

The G.O.O.D. Music representative looked to be in the zone during his freestyle, until about halfway through when he announced, "Hold up, know what?/Premo this beat sucks." He would also send out a tweet detailing his frustrations with the beat, and claimed his freestyle was spoiled because of it:

FYI MY BET HIP HOP AWARDS CYPHER IS ASS. I ACTUALLY FREESTYLE. I WAS UNDERWHELM BY THE BEAT AND THE PRODUCTION VALUE.

The beat in question? Nothing special, just a slowed down version of James Brown's iconic 1974 record "Funky President." You know, the one that Brand Nubian sampled on "All For One," or Eric B. & Rakim sampled for "Eric B. Is President." It's also the same breakbeat that N.W.A. sampled for "Fuck tha Police," as well as dozens of other records from artists that shaped the late-'80s and '90s era of hip-hop.

Pretty underwhelming beat though, wouldn't you say?
