Robin Thicke Talks Miley Cyrus and MTV Video Music Awards Performance With Oprah

"I was the twerkee, not the twerker," Thicke explains.

Robin Thicke spoke with Oprah on Oprah's Next Chapter about his controversial performance with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. According to Thicke, the performance felt like it was "cute" as they rehearsed it together prior to the show, but that he was not a part of Miley's solo performance, which set the scene for what was to follow. Thicke said that he was "in the middle of the circus" when he got on stage. He wasn't offended by Miley's actions on stage, either. "I guess I'm just not as normal as I thought I was," Thicke said.

Thicke went on to say that Miley's performance and her twerking represented who she is to the fullest, adding that she had been in the studio with him twerking along to "Blurred Lines" when he first recorded it with Pharrell.

Thicke also spoke about his relationship with wife Paula Patton, and how the two perceive of each other's edgier moments, such as Thicke's "Blurred Lines" video and Patton appearing naked in 2 Guns. He also offered his insight on Justin Bieber and his ongoing controversies.
