With Nas turning 40 this Friday, Complex TV went and took a look back at Nas' life and career. To pin down some of the defining moments of Nasir Jones' legendary career they talked to a whole range of people, including OGs like DJ Premier, Marley Marl, and Salaam Remi, up-and-coming New York rappers like A$AP Ferg and Mr. MFN eXquire, as well as journalists like Miss Info and Chuck Creekmur. In Part one of this two part video, they recount the impact of Nas' Illmatic, how Nas switched it up for his It Was Written album, and look back on his epic lyrical battle with Jay Z. Part two looks at Nas' marriage to Kelis, the triumph of the Life Is Good album, and predicts what's next for Nas.
