Although it's been a couple months since Ja Rule was released from prison following a two-year stay, the Queens rapper has kept a relatively low profile. However, as he suggested in an interview with us last month, he's been busy recording.

Tonight he shared the first solo cut to come about from those efforts, with Funkmaster Flex debuting "Fresh Out Da Pen" on Hot 97. On the song, Ja Rule sounds angry, throwing harsh words and middle fingers around for anyone who's paying attention.

The intensity suggests prison may have provided some reinvigoration, but Ja Rule notes he "ain't trying to get locked up no more." He also references Jay Z, 2 Chainz, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna, showing that, in addition to recording, he's been paying close attention to pop culture all summer.
