The UK pop trio trade in Dark Child's light melody for a hypnotic backdrop that feels just as vibrant, where Lauren Mayberry showcases her perky vocals over handclaps and synth-blips. The 25-year-old singer smartly stays away from attempting Houston's high notes and instead wows listeners with an extra dose of attitude. "It's Not Right But It's Okay" reached no. 3 on the UK Billboard Singles chart in 1999, and it's safe to say Mayberry had a lot of practice belting this song out as a tween.
CHVRCHES' cover was premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show, who's been on a promotional tear this week with his explosive interview alongside Kanye West. CHVRCHES recently released their debut album The Bones of What You Believe, which features their latest single "Gun."
