Video: Phoenix "Trying to Be Cool"

They look cool to us.

The lead singer of one of our biggest bands doesn’t have to try, but Phoenix’s Thomas Mars still felt the need to get across his insecurity on the fourth song from Bankrupt! “Trying to Be Cool” might not be as instant as that new record’s “Drakkar Noir” or “Chloroform,” but it is a standout, and hopefully that will be recognized even further with the release of its accompanying video.

In the clip, the French quartet can be seen performing “Trying to Be Cool” in a space that alternately looks like a giant apartment space and a warehouse. There are also dancers with short shorts on, not to mention a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. Also a game of chess.

Bankrupt! is out now via Glassnote/Atlantic.
