While Jhené Aiko is set to release her anticipated debut album, Souled Out, later this year, the Los Angeles singer will be giving listeners an EP beforehand entitled Sail Out.

Jhené recently spoke with Rap-Up, detailing the inspiration behind her upcoming project. "I've recorded over 20-something songs, and at the end of mixing everything, it was like, 'We have two albums,' she explained. "Instead of trying to figure out what we want to put on the album, I came up with releasing an EP in between now and [Souled Out]."

Portraying Sail Out as a lighthearted project compared to her debut, Jhené unveiled a few featured guests that will join her on the EP. "Kendrick Lamar is on 'Stay Ready,' and that reminds you of like a Janet Jackson, real sexy type of song."

Ab-Soul and Big Sean will also make appearances, along with Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa, a record she described as playful in demeanor and substance. "Wiz Khalifa is on 'Hit It Again,' which is a double entendre for drugs or sex. It's like a fun, sexy type of song too."

She also revealed her rap alter ego J. Hennessy, a moniker that stems from her favorite liquor. "She’s an aspiring rapper. She still sings, but she’s more aggressive. She likes to really talk a lot of shit and talk about things that a lot of R&B singers don’t talk about."
