The 2013 BET Awards just wrapped up, and it was a tremendous affair. The show features a tribute to the legendary Charlie Wilson, and saw Kendrick Lamar perform alongside Erykah Badu in a very special moment. However, one of the big news stories in the aftermath of tonight's festivities centered around one of the stars who did not attend the show.

Drake was conspicuously absent from the award show, despite being nominated for twelve awards and the recipient of the Viewer's Choice Award and Best Collaboration (for A$AP Rocky's "Fuckin Problem"). While the rumor leading up to the show was that Drake had decided to bail last minute due to being afraid of running into Chris Brown, the Toronto native took to Twitter to thank the fans for his award and to dispel the rumor.

According to Drake, he has an album to finish up and also needed to spend time with family before heading out on tour. He added a congratulations to Kendrick Lamar for winning Best New Artist and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist awards. Read the tweets below.

Thank you to BET and to the fans for voting! I'm home finishing the album and spending time w/ family before we begin our journey Sept 17.
Congrats to Kendrick as well! NWTS
