Exclusives are a funny thing in 2013. Unless you have a way of properly safeguarding that the material you claim to be exclusive doesn't land anywhere else, you end up getting scooped within minutes of posting. Take our #TRAPTHURSDAYS series with Valentino Khan. We love the guy, and had a ball presenting that series to the people, but once that SoundCloud link went public, every blogger worth their weight in bandwidth had it up on their site... without crediting the original source. And we're pretty sure that our logo was on the artwork for each of those releases.
We say that to help you understand how easy it is to be scooped.
Looking over our RSS feeds today, we saw that The Music Ninja got an exclusive drop on this new Butch Clancy #SUMMERHEAT mix. More power to them; dude's made a name for himself within the EDM game, dropping everything from dubstep to house with relative ease. We fox with TMN, so them getting this look was dope... but then we saw that Dancing Astronaut posted it as a "DA Exclusive" as well.
Now, how does that work? TMN didn't mention anything about Dancing Astronaut doing a co-exclusive on it, nor did Dancing Astronaut say word one about The Music Ninja. Butch only mentioned that it was dropping today, but he never made any distinction about where or with whom. We have to wonder: What happened here? Was it supposed to be a co-exclusive drop? Did Butch tell both sites they'd have the drop but they didn't coordinate it properly? We would LOVE to think that this was some kind of "control two different fanbases by dropping on two sites" thing, but TMN made the point to say "Just make sure to give credits where credits are due when you throw this bad boy on" without mentioning a single word about Dancing Astronaut. That would lead us to believe that they were under the assumption that they had sole exclusivity...
Right? Do you even care? You just want the mix, right? Here you go, chock full of unreleased bits and whatnot.

UPDATE DAD commenter Kurt KHANK let us know that Butch posted on FB that Dancing Astronaut had the exclusive; we're still awaiting word from The Music NInja.
