While a full discussion of trap has to account for quite a few years of hip-hop history and a few different strains of electronic music, it's fascinating to see how quickly the nascent genre peaked in one form (violent, in-the-red, woofer-busting beats) and has subsequently been transformed by different producers across the SoundCloud-o-sphere.
With a love for airy R&B samples and a knack for atmosphere without losing any of that trademark heaviness, Arnold has fast become one of trap's most promising re-inventors. He continues his recent string of successful singles with "plus and minus (shh)," a four minute journey packed with warm synths, chopped vocals, and enough evocative piano to bring a tear to your eye. All that's missing is an R. Kelly verse to make the cypher complete.
