Listen: Lil Bibby & Lil Herb "Play They Role"

Chicago's rap scene sustains its run.

None

Lil Bibby and Lil Herb have a more traditional rap style than livewires like Chief Keef, and are a bit less critic-friendly than Chance the Rapper. Bibby and Herb are, instead, a blend of the former's confrontational demeanor and the latter's dexterity. They've also received some pretty high-profile cosigns from Drake and Danny Brown.

The success of Chance has suggested to some that the drill scene backlash has impeded the success of other street artists from Chicago. But "Play They Role" argues that whatever outsiders think, the scene is still flourishing creatively. It is arguably the duo's strongest release to date, an anthemic track that should only prove more convincing to those who have doubted that Chicago's young people, for all the negative press, are at the very least, a creative force to be reckoned with.
