Yes, you read that right. 20th Century Fox has purchased a currently-untitled movie pitch that is said to be “8 Mile meets Project X,” focusing on three teens trying to get into “Diplo’s Electronic Music Festival.” While we assume he will be featured in the film, Diplo is also locked on as an executive producer, and the movie is being written by Adam Weinstock and Andy Jones.
While we’ve known that Diplo has a love of film-making, the majority of his output has been of a documentary nature. This is the first time we know of him taking on a fiction piece, and it makes sense to have it set in the world that he knows. There’s no word on when something like this will come into fruition, but if this isn’t proof of EDM properly hitting the mainstream in 2013, we’re not sure what is.
