We've done a lot of talking about Seclusiasis, one of the premiere US imprints for that "street bass" sound, which is a dope mixture of hip-hop, dubstep, grime, r&b, and whatever else keeps the block hot. Seclusiasis has a sister label, Slit Jockey, which is run by Starkey, Dev79, and El Carnicero ("the Butcher"). While many of you only knew of grime in the 2000s via Dizzee Rascal, El Carn and the Slit Jockey crew were snagging releases from Stagga, SDUK, Numan, and DZ.
When not making moves behind the scenes, El Carn's crafting his own beats, with artists like Doodlebug (of Digable Planets), Warrior Queen, and RollDeep's RikoDan having worked with him in the past. He has more music coming with Doodlebug, as well as tracks featuring Curly Castro and Juakali on the way, as well as a brand-new imprint, Fat Black Records (which was started alongside Cool Hand Lex). For his DAD mix, El Carn flips a number of tracks from Seclusiasis, Slit Jockey, and other like-minded producers (including the heavyweight Lockah remix of "Jooky" from Danny Brown's Bruiser Brigade crew). He even took some time to throw some Macklemore in this one. Set your weekend off right!
