Young Chop has already produced the soundtrack to some of the more unnerving gangster rap of recent times. Fresh off should-have-been-a-hit anthem "Codeine," the producer and his blood brother Johnny May Cash unite to do the same to R&B.
"30" refers to the 30-shot clip flashed in the video. The song's melodic pop sound has a sweet wistfulness, which makes for a very jarring contrast with the hardcore lyrics. At some level, though, it's not too distant from the juxtaposition Nate Dogg pioneered in the early 1990s, albeit a lot more contemporary-sounding.
