Wyclef Jean, the founder of the critically acclaimed ‘90s hip-hop trio The Fugees, has revealed some insight about his past with Lauryn Hill in his autobiography, Purpose.

Jean was married at the time, but had an affair with bandmate Hill. He says that the reason the Fugees broke up was because Hill lied about a paternity test about her child. He writes in the autobiography that Hill tricked him into believing the child was his. The real father was Bob Marley’s son Rohan.

“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that,” he wrote.

Jean continues to say that the betrayal led to the group's break-up in 1997.

“She could no longer be my muse,” he wrote. “Our love spell was broken.”

Purpose will be in stores everywhere tomorrow.
