Saturday’s taping of the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards didn’t go as smoothly as hoped. Word broke out on Twitter that an altercation happened between rappers Rick Ross and Young Jeezy backstage. From what insiders had gathered, they exchanged some words which led to shoving. Then, gunshots were allegedly fired and at least one person was taken into custody.
It spilled onto the parking lot where multiple sources confirmed that MMG's Gunplay was jumped by members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit crew. While it has been undetermined if he was arrested or wounded, there has been footage of Gunplay fighting an alleged member before running towards 2 Chainz’ trailer.
According to the Associated Press, Atlanta Police spokesperson Carlos Campos arrived at the scene at 7:30 p.m. to confirm that a scuffle did happen. However, despite claims, Campos says no shots were fired or anybody was injured. Following the show, DJ Drama went on Gangsta Grillz Radio to explain that Rozay and Jeezy left unscathed.
This morning, BET released a statement in attempt to clear any misinformation or inaccuracies in reporting.
"BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."
The awards show finished its taping and will air on October 9. Still, Twitter was active with all kinds of talk about the clashes between Jeezy and Rozay and Gunplay and G-Unit. From the beginning to the end, when Rozay and Chainz ended up partying at Mansion Elan, here’s everything you need to know about what happened at the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
