Like many of Santigold's best songs, this one's about the struggle for youth, individuality, creative freedom, and "a life worth fighting for." Santi's music posits a universe divided between "They"—who "want to sit and watch it wither"—and "We"—who "said our dreams will carry us." Once these roles are defined, it's all about learning "how to win what they all lost." Sounds pretty simple, right? "So let them say we can't do better / Lay out the rules that we can't break." If Santi's with us, who could be against us?
