Remixing classic records is not so simple. Many music lovers take the approach, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But DMV producer/emcee Oddisee's remix of Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" is undeniably dope. Not only does he flip the beat, giving it hard, hip-hop drums and bass, but he twists the feel of the song, bringing out the minor sounds from the original vocals with matching piano stabs. And the video blends a variety of live performance footage of the song together, matching perfectly with the track. Oddisee even lends his own verse to the end, rapping, "I know love is peculiar, but you are even more so, how you wear your heart on your wardrobe? Lord knows." Marvin would be moved.

Oddisee will be dropping his Odd Renditions EP for free on May 15th (this remix can be found on there), leading up to the June 12th release of his solo album People Hear What They See, which is available for pre-order now.
