It looks like someone is making the rounds hoping to collect off artists using their music on mixtapes. Earlier this month, we reported that Robert Poindexter of The Persuaders is suing Kanye West over using an uncleared sample of the group's song "Trying Girls Out" on 'Ye's "Girls Girls Girls" unreleased remix that made its way to the 2006 Freshman Adjustment 2 mixtape. And now, Poindexter is coming after 50 Cent, suing him for sampling The Persuaders song "Love Gonna Pack Up and Walk Out" on "Redrum," a track off his 50's free War AngelLP mixtape released in 2009.

Poindexter says that 50 Cent thinks he was not in the wrong because he released the song for free. But regardless, Poindexter is suing him for unspecified statutory damages and an additional $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest. It will be interesting to see how these cases turn out, and if they affect the trend of artists releasing songs with uncleared samples for free online.
