For months it has been suspected that Madonna will headline the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show. Tonight NBC confirmed that suspicion with the announcement that the 53-year-old pop star will indeed be performing during Super Bowl XLVI. She'll be following in the footsteps of Black Eyed Peas, who performed last year with help from Slash and Usher. Maybe Madonna will bring along M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj.

According to the NFL's website, "Madonna has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show."
