People have studied Jay-Z for years, but never quite like this. This fall, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson will be teaching a course offered by Georgetown University called "Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z." To explain why he chose Shawn Carter as the focus, Dyson puts it simply: "Well, because Jay-Z is an incredible genius." Watch the professor speak on Hov in the video above.

Average number of students in a typical course is 30 to 40, but there have already been 140 students that have signed up for this three credit class. The required reading for the course? Jay’s Decoded, Adam Bradley’s Book of Rhymes, and Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s Empire State of Mind.
