If you watched the new Lady Gaga video for "Yoü and I," you probably had some questions like "what the fuck just happened," "what the fuck is Gaga wearing," or maybe just "what the fuck?" But the video also rekindled an ancient curiosity that has crossed every guy's mind at some point(s) in our lives: can a man have sex with a mermaid? Is this something that would be possible?

In the music video, Gaga appears as a half-woman/half-fish, apparently named Yuyi, and although no penetration is shown, it seems as though Yuyi is quite possibly having a sexual encounter with a fully human guy. The video ends, and with no definitive evidence we thought we'd never get our answer.

Thankfully, during a special on MTV, a fan asked Gaga if mermaid sex was in fact possible. Here's what she said:

"Well, that's actually part of what the metaphor is — you can't." She went on to explain that "sometimes in love, you can't make it work. No matter what you do, there's this giant boundary between you and someone else. So that's what it's about, perceiving in your imagination that there's something magical inside of you that you can make it work."

So there you have it. According to Gaga, who seems as good of a source as any when it comes to this kind of thing, sex between a man and a mermaid is impossible. This isn't the way we wanted to find out, but such is life.

"For me, it was all about capturing the true spirit of the song, which is when you're in love, you'll be willing to walk and do the craziest and most inconvenient things you can possibly imagine," she added. "The video is quite complex in the way that the story is told, and it's meant to be slightly linear and slightly twisted and confusing, which is the way that love is."
