Book a flight for March 16 and you'll see more than a few dudes holding guitar cases when it's time to board. That's because it's the date SXSW kicks off and a good chunk of the music world heads down to Austin, Texas for one of the year's biggest music festivals. About a million bands are playing (full list here), but Pitchfork sifted through the clutter and highlighted the standout acts. Check out our favorites from their selects below:

Bright Eyes, The Kills, Chromeo, Dodos, The Raveonettes, Owen Pallett, Gayngs, Surfer Blood, Das Racist, Freddie Gibbs, Toro Y Moi, Dom, Dum Dum Girls, Diamond Rings, Killer Mike, Cloud Nothings, Fang Island, A-Trak, Baths, Big K.R.I.T., Tapes N' Tapes, Gold Panda, G-Side, Pictureplane, Moon Duo, PS I Love You, Nite Jewel, Asobi Seksu, Weekend, Javelin, and Memoryhouse.
