President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday released their 2021 tax returns.

The President and first lady Jill Biden earned $610,702 during their first year in the White House, paying $150,439 in federal income taxes for an effective tax rate of 24.6 percent. They also reported contributions of $17,394 to 10 different charities, including to the Beau Biden Foundation.

Meanwhile, Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, earned a reported federal adjusted gross income of $1,655,563 in 2021, paying $523,371 in federal income taxes for an effective tax rate of 31.6 percent.

Nearly $772,000 of Harris and Emhoff’s reported income stemmed from the sale of a San Francisco condominium, as well as compensation Kamala earned as a writer. The couple also contributed $22,100 to charity last year.

“With this release, the president has shared a total of 24 years of tax returns with the American public, once again demonstrating his commitment to being transparent with the American people about the finances of the commander in chief,” Biden said in a statement.

Every president since Richard Nixon has released their tax returns to the public, with the exception of Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump, who claimed he couldn’t release his tax filings because they were under audit.
