A driver who reportedly attempted to hit several people standing on a sidewalk died in Los Angeles, California Saturday after crashing his car into a building and fighting with bystanders, WBRZ reports.

The incident occured early Saturday morning, when 40-year-old Miguel Lopez Santos was allegedly involved in a verbal altercation inside the Rock It Sports Lounge and Grill and was asked to leave. That’s when he’s said to have went into his vehicle and proceeded to drive his truck onto the sidewalk, almost hitting several people, per Fox 11.

He initially lost control of his truck and hit a tree, and then kept driving only to hit a liquor store.

That’s when bystanders reportedly removed him from his car and a fight ensued. The driver died at the scene, though it’s unclear if he died in the crash or the fight. A coroner’s report has not yet been shared regarding the death.

“Hawthorne Police officers saw the driver lying on the ground, suffering what appeared to be blunt force trauma,” the LASD said, according to CNN. “Paramedics provided life-saving measures, but he was pronounced deceased on scene.” The man reportedly suffered from blunt force trauma, and since the crash wasn’t said to be serious, it’s likely that he died from the ensuing fight, per WBRZ.

The Sheriff’s office said four men were considered prime suspects in the incident but no other information has been revealed regarding their identities.
