Diddy surprised the students at his Bronx school on Tuesday.

That same day, Capital Preparatory Charter School started its 2022-2023 school year. Diddy celebrated the day by giving an inspirational speech to around 160 students, faculty, and staff in the cafeteria, where he explained how vital a good education is and engaged in a Q&A with the kids, according to a press release.

One of the cafeteria walls is emblazoned with a quote from Diddy, “Don’t be afraid to close your eyes and dream, then open your eyes and see!”

During his speech, he elaborated on that quote, telling the kids, “What this means is that you can dream of all the big things you want in the world, but you’re going to have to work to get it. Especially here in the Bronx, we know that nobody is going to give us nothing. We’re going to have to go get it. It’s a lot of sacrifice, a lot of discipline, and a lot of focus. Get locked in on your dream.”

During the day, the school’s cheerleading team had its own surprise for Diddy with a performance set to his new “Gotta Move On,” which arrived earlier this year. Diddy also visited classrooms so he could connect with the students in smaller settings.

Diddy helped the Capital Preparatory Schools network open its Harlem school in 2016 and later gifted $1 million to the group again to open the new location in the Bronx, which opened its doors in 2020.
