Per a report from KATC, the freezer discovery occurred at an Arby’s located in the New Iberia area. Police say that employees first found the body shortly before 6:30 p.m. local time. A police spokesperson was quoted in the report as stating it was “too soon to say” if the discovery of the body had spurred a criminal investigation. At the time, police said, the investigation was being handled as a “suspicious death” case.

Additional info was not immediately provided. However, a separate report from KADN included comments from a homicide investigator, notably that the body was believed to be that of a woman who worked at the fast food location. The body was reportedly found inside a walk-in freezer.

“After completely processing the crime scene… this does not seem like a homicide, it seems like an accident,” New Iberia Police Captain Leland Laseter told the outlet, adding that such information was not final. Laseter also confirmed that other employees at the restaurant had been interviewed about the case and would likely be interviewed again. Furthermore, the results of a pending autopsy will contribute to a final call on the cause of death, though currently available info suggests that foul play was not involved.

Complex has reached out to the New Iberia Police Department for comment. This story may be updated.
