Apple special event 9/12/2017

Broadcasting live for the first time from the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple showcased the next phase of their products this afternoon. The most anticipated item was the long-awaited iPhone 8, which is dropping on what would coincide with the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone, although talk of the mysterious the iPhone X was heating up. It's was also speculated that they would be unveiling their new Apple Watch, as well as HomePod, which is due to be a Google Home / Amazon Echo killer.

For those of you who couldn't livestream the event, don't trip; we took notes to provide you with all of the new information from Apple; we also live-tweeted Apple's event. We won't be helping you save the money to cop whatever heat they announce, though; that's on you.

#AppleEvent kicks off with a tribute to Steve Jobs from current Apple CEO Tim Cook pic.twitter.com/QMuAsudXrL

Today's event began with words from Steve Jobs. "Today and always, we honor him," said Tim Cook. He then moved onto the tragedies in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean and announced Apple will be matching direct contributions and making it easier to donate via Apple Music and iTunes. Then he brought up Angela Ahrendts to talk about Apple's Retail division. They don't have stores anymore; they call them "Apple Town Squares" or something.

Now it's time for the first item on the docket...

The Apple Watch

Here's the new #AppleWatch from today's #AppleEvent! pic.twitter.com/uiH0y3CK4h

Cook said the Apple Watch (which is available on Sept. 22, with pre-orders on Sept. 15) is the No. 1 watch on the market, with 97 percent customer satisfaction. Then he cut to a video with loads of Apple Watch users reading letters about how the Apple Watch benefited their lives, many of which involved things like surviving car accidents and monitoring their medical needs.

well now we need the apple watch to save our lives lol #AppleEvent

Apple Watch will now be able to notify you if it feels an elevated heart rate when you don't appear to be active. They also announced Apple Heart Study, which they are working on with Stanford, that will analyze stuff like arrhythmia. That means you can be a part of this massive study just by downloading an app and rocking an Apple Watch.

Apple also announced that the Apple Watch Series 3 will have cellular connectivity built-in, which means you can go for a run or just go out with your Apple Watch without needing your iPhone. Your number would be the same as your phone's, and you can even rock Apple Music on your Apple Watch. All you need is your Apple Watch and your AirPods.

And now for the price. Apple Watch Series 3 clocks in $399, $329 without cellular, with Series 2 now available for $249.

Apple TV 4K

Tim Cook then announced Apple TV 4K. They showed a fire scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming playing on an Apple TV 4K, because they can. What's interesting is if you copped a movie in HD through Apple, they will be upgrading it to 4K for your Apple TV 4K, for free. Netflix and Amazon titles will be coming "soon" in 4K.

iPhone 8

The main event is here...It's phone time! #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/vPPYkoYwRa

After a speech on how lit the iPhone has been, we get a crispy new turnt video for the iPhone 8.

They also spent a bunch of time speaking on the updates to the camera on the iPhone 8.

Everything in the iPhone 8 is high-power. A new processor (the A11 Bionic), speakers that are 25 percent louder (with deeper bass), and is said to be "the most durable in a smartphone," which is sealed for water and dust resistance.

They also looked at Augemented Reality (think Pokémon Go), which the A11 chip was optimized for, which would highlight, say, at-bat information for players during baseball games, etc.

The iPhone 8 will also feature wireless charging. It looks like a number of companies are going to be working with Apple to start adding wireless charging options in their facilities and vehicles.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will both start at 64 GB capacities, with pre-orders going up on Sept. 15 and shipments on Sept. 22, with iOS 11 being available on Sept. 19.

iPhone X

"This is the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone."

And now for the main event. With the same glass on the front and back of the iPhone 8, the X comes in two colors: space gray and silver. It also has an all-new display, called Super Retina display.

There is no Home button on the iPhone X. Now you just Swipe from the bottom to return home, which works across the board on the iPhone X. They've also announced Face ID, which is how you unlock your phone using a True Depth camera system that will scan your face to make sure you're you. And wearing a hat (or the time of day or night) won't mess up Face ID. Apple said they worked with mask makers at Hollywood to prevent Face ID from being duped. They also made sure to note that none of this information (which is stored in a secure spot on your phone) will hit a server. The chance of someone else unlocking your phone is one in a million (no Aaliyah). Didn't stop Twitter from having jokes, though.

They also announced Animoji, which is emoji that are controlled by your face. You can even record messages to send to your squad as Animoji.

The camera on the iPhone X is also better than the iPhone 8, bringing in 36 percent more light than the 8. It also has four LEDs on the flash. The battery on the iPhone X also lasts two hours longer than the iPhone 7. It also supports wireless charging, just like the iPhone 8. Apple said they have a charger, called AirPower, which is a charger they have on the way "next year" to make charging your iPhone, Watch, and AirPods at the same time easier.
