Does Trump Know Anna Wintour Doesn't Work at Vanity Fair, Or That the 2016 Election Is Over?

Looks like someone won't be getting invited to the Met Gala.

Anna Wintour and Hillary Clinton

It was really only a matter of time before President Donald Trump, who counts roasting Hillary Clinton at any opportunity among his favorite hobbies, weighed in on the recent Vanity Fair fiasco involving a bad joke about Hillary Clinton.

As part of a satirical series of videos on its political vertical The Hive, Vanity Fair posted a video this week suggesting Clinton take up a new hobby in 2018— “volunteer work, knitting, improv comedy”—so she wouldn’t think of running for office again. The internet machine reared its ugly head and called out the magazine for what many saw as a sexist video. The wave looked like it had already passed by Thursday morning, but that’s exactly when Trump decided to give his two cents on the matter.

Vanity Fair, which looks like it is on its last legs, is bending over backwards in apologizing for the minor hit they took at Crooked H. Anna Wintour, who was all set to be Amb to Court of St James’s & a big fundraiser for CH, is beside herself in grief & begging for forgiveness!

In a slightly paradoxical twist, he attacked Vanity Fair for appearing to be going out of business, as though he were defending Clinton. But he was in fact insulting the legendary magazine for apologizing for their “minor hit.” After all, with Trump, you either forego all morality when you’re going after someone or you go home.

But Trump then somewhat inexplicably attacked Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue. Just to reiterate: Vogue is not Vanity Fair. Vogue has nothing to do with Vanity Fair besides the fact that both magazines belong to the same parent company, Condé Nast. Wintour herself is also artistic director of Condé Nast, which, as previously stated, encompasses both Vanity Fair and Vogue, among several other magazines. In any case, Wintour has not made any public statements about the Vanity Fair controversy regarding Hillary Clinton.

Trump also suggested Wintour was “all set” to become ambassador to the United Kingdom, which is a rumor that has been circling since 2012. Wintour has been involved in many fundraisers for Obama and Hillary Clinton, and the position would’ve been a “thank you” for the British-born editor. But the rumor was squashed back in 2013, and it has not been brought up since. It is also hard to imagine Wintour, who has been at the head of one of the most influential fashion magazines in the world since 1988 years and inspired Meryl Streep’s savage character in The Devil Wears Prada, “begging for forgiveness” from anyone. Also, it’s unclear what Wintour would be apologizing for, since it’s very unlikely she has any editorial say in what Vanity Fair publishes since she is not employed by Vanity Fair.

All in all, this is yet another baffling early morning tweet from our President. All that Trump has really managed to achieve with his tweet is to ensure that he will never ever be invited to a Met Gala.
