A North Carolina woman was awarded $3.2 million in a revenge porn case against her ex-husband and his new partner.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, Elizabeth Ann Clark had accused U.S. Army Maj. Adam Clark and Lt. Col. Kimberly Rae Barrett of posting her nude photos online, libel, and "alienation-of-affection," which essentially allows a husband or wife to sue a homewrecker. The outlet reports this appeared to be the first revenge porn lawsuit to reach a jury verdict in North Carolina.
Elizabeth Clark told the Observer she nearly fainted when the first $1 million judgment was announced in court Monday.
"I was kind of confused at first," she recalled.
The reality began to sink in once she looked over to the defendants' table and saw Barrett getting emotional.
"And Kim was bawling or starting to bawl," Elizabeth Clark said. "It hit me."
Barrett was ordered to pay the plaintiff $1.2 million, while Adam Clark was to pay a little over $2 million.
Elizabeth Clark accused her ex-husband of stalking, making false claims about her health online, and posting her topless photos on Facebook and the dating app Kik.
Adam Clark is also facing misdemeanor charges of stalking and cyberstalking in connection to the allegations. Barrett is reportedly under military investigation for adultery, "using her position to influence childcare and accessing the medical records of the Elizabeth Clark and her children."
Elizabeth Clark said she intends to use any money she receives to improve the lives of her children, one of whom was diagnosed with autism.
"I did believe I was going to win because I knew what I was telling was the truth," she said. "And I know my story, and I knew what I lived through every single day and still to this day, and what I’m going to continue to live through."
