Alabama High School Secretary Arrested for Having Sex With 16-Year-Old Student

Elba High School’s secretary Martha Sasser Pope was arrested this week and hit with the charged with engaging in a sexual act with a student.

A 43-year-old Alabama high school secretary was arrested for allegedly having sex with a student, AL.com reports.

Elba High School’s Martha Sasser Pope was arrested and hit with a felony charge of a school employee engaging in a sexual act with a student under 19. According to Elba’s local ABC affiliate, the incident between Pope and the 16-year-old male student occurred on Sept. 10 and included oral sex. As of now, it’s unclear where the alleged sex took place.

According to Coffee County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth, Pope turned herself into authorities and was held on a $5,000 bond at the Coffee County Jail. But, the Elba Police Department will handle the official investigation. Her first court appearance for these charges will be held on Nov. 10.

Pope has also been placed on paid administrative leave by the district following her arrest, according to Elba Superintendent Chris Moseley. Moseley explained that Pope returned in April as the school secretary after being hired for the position last year. The school board will now hold a meeting next week where it will discuss the accusations against Pope and how these allegations should be handled moving forward.
