Sacha Baron Cohen's new Showtime television show, Who Is America?, is still a week away from its July 15 premiere date, but the series is already flustering prominent members of U.S. politics.
On Tuesday, former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin admitted that she was "duped" into an interview with Cohen for the show. In a long message posted to her Facebook page, Palin explains that Cohen "heavily disguised" himself as a disabled U.S. veteran in a fake wheelchair before conducting a long interview with her.
"I join a long list of American public personalities who have fallen victim to the evil, exploitive, sick 'humor' of the British 'comedian' Sacha Baron Cohen, enabled and sponsored by CBS/Showtime," she wrote. "I sat through a long 'interview' full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm - but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin."
Palin says she'll allow Cohen to air the footage, but she has a challenge for Cohen and Showtime.
"Here is my challenge, shallow Sacha boy: go ahead—air the footage," she writes. "Experience tells us it will be heavily edited, not pretty, and intended to humiliate. The challenge is to Cohen, CBS and Showtime: donate all proceeds to a charitable group that actually respects and supports American Vets. Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night, but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country."
So far, the teasers for the show have centered around Republican politicians. First, Cohen shared a Fourth of July message featuring Donald Trump on Twitter, then released a teaser clip that featured Dick Cheney signing a waterboarding kit.
