Retail giant Walmart recently revealed the top-selling item in each state for 2017. And you already know we have so many questions.
As pointed out by Business Insider, Texas spends a lot on TV mounts; Wyoming loves its flannel shirts; New York can’t get enough Cheerios; and California is dropping a lot of money on protein powder. Though these are pretty standard purchases and not at all confusing, there are some states with questionable spending habits.
North Dakota’s was watermelon-flavored gum; Louisiana’s was root beer extract; Michigan’s was lavender-scented cleaning products; Delaware’s was spiced jelly candy; and Arizona’s was the L.O.L. Surprise Doll … whatever the hell that is.
What’s weird about a lot of these items is they’re not perishable or something you can run out of. Like, why on God’s green earth was the Ghost in the Shell DVD Connecticut’s top-selling item? How many copies does each household really need? (Zero is the correct answer here.) And how many Green Bay Packer bath mats were actually purchased in Wisconsin. The fact that this bathroom accessory outsold products like milk, bread, and eggs is pretty baffling; but, then again, Cheeseheads are known to be die-hards.
