As if to prove once and for all that major media outlets should seriously consider hiring writers to exclusively cover the chicken beat, KFC has launched new donuts-assisted items at selection restaurant locations.

Business Insider reported Tuesday that the new Chicken & Donuts items were being tested out at more than 40 locations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Norfolk and Richmond in Virginia. For now, those within range of those locations can try out a basket of on-the-bone chicken or chicken tenders with donuts and/or a chicken sandwich that ditches bread for donuts.

The single donut edition of the option runs $5.50, with the addition of one more donut bumping up the cost to $7.50. The sandwich, meanwhile, is set at $6 for the solo experience or $8 for a meal combo. For $1, customers can also choose to add a single donut to any meal on the menu.

As this is a test, the response to this donut infiltration will be influential in the nationwide fate of the new menu items. And as anyone who's been following this year's chicken news might expect, the response—online, at least—has been lively:

KFC had every chance to takeover the chicken sandwich debate and did a fuckin Cheeto chicken sandwich and a donut one...

I wanna try both tho https://t.co/V2lo6gzOmb

KFC's donut experiment follows other recent chicken developments including that whole thing about Popeyes telling customers to bring their own bun following its widely reported sandwich sellout.
