Martin Shkreli has been placed in solitary confinement, the Daily Beast reports.
An insider close to the Shkreli legal team confirmed the news to Forbes. In early March, the Wall Street Journal reported that Shkreli was still allegedly operating his pharmaceutical company from a cellphone in jail and had fired Phoenixus AG’s interm CEO. The insider also shared that Shkreli was subsequently sent to Fort Dix’s special housing unit (SHU) around a week and a half after the WSJ’s report.
According to the Daily Beast, the Bureau of Prisons reportedly wouldn’t verify that Shkreli was in solitary confinement, but did say that certain matters raised by WSJ’s article were “under investigation.” The BOP spokesperson added, “When there are allegations of misconduct, they are thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action is taken if allegations are sustained.”
In March, WSJ reported that Shkreli is “at work on a big second act” and that he “still helps call the shots” for his company via the contraband smartphone he had smuggled into prison.

Shkreli was sentenced to seven years in prison for fraud after he was found to be swindling investors and manipulating the stock prices of his own company.
