A 31-year-old man kicked off 2019 inside the clink, after testing positive for all detectable drugs on New Year's Eve.
According to the Olive Press, authorities arrested the driver in Ibiza while they were conducting roadside breathalyzer screenings. The man, who was pulled over at around 3 a.m. on New Year's Day, had allegedly consumed cocaine, methamphetamine, opiates, weed, and amphetamines—every drug the machinery can identify. Furthermore, officers also discovered a large batch of drugs inside his vehicle: 26 pills, more cocaine, and some kind of brown substance.
Olive Press reports the man now faces a charge for driving under the influence, a $1,134 fine, a six-point penalty on his driver's license. It's unclear if the man had excessive levels of alcohol in his system; however, officers said he displayed a "reckless attitude." No surprise there.
Though the driver's NYE celebration was excessive, and potentially fatal, it's extremely likely that he wasn't the only inebriated motorist on Ibiza's roads that night. He may have even been in the majority. According to a 2017 report by The Ibizan, between 80 percent and 90 percent of all roadside drug tests in the city yeld positive results; however, it's important to note that drug detection doesn't necessarily mean the individual was impaired. These kinds of tests can detect the substances days or weeks after they were consumed.
