Be careful: the rich people are bored again. In the latest bizarre trend for British people with cash to spare, women are having “brieing” parties, which consists of taking MDMA wrapped in brie cheese. I’m exhausted already, but there’s more to learn about this absurd phenomenon, so please bear with me here.

Metro UK spoke with an unnamed 50-year-old woman who said she hosts dinner parties where she and her friends take molly wrapped in cheese. It all started when her daughter gave her a gram, and her son told her to never snort it and should instead ingest it.

"I have a strong circle of female friends and we had tried all the latest fads, food fashions, and destination dinner parties but something was missing," she said. "We did not seem to have as much of a laugh than as when we were younger, there always seemed to be barriers up between us."

Naturally, she decided to take the obvious next step and do some drugs with her bored posh friends.

"Nothing much happened for forty minutes then the colors in the rug seemed to be a more vivid and before I know it was in an in-depth conversation about my fantasy sex life with an old friend," the woman said. "It was such an intense experience. I am sure most of us at that party have done it with other friends so now wrapping MDMA in brie seems to be a thing now."

This was a year ago. Since, this same woman has been invited to several other brieing parties, constituting a real trend for these folks. Another source said she usually wraps the pill in “duck pancakes from our takeaway.”

Now, this isn’t exactly a knock on MDMA: it’s an illegal drug, but it’s been found to have therapeutic uses. In 2016, the FDA approved the final stage of trials that used ecstasy as a prescription drug to treat PTSD (MDMA is the purer form of ecstasy.) MDMA could be legal as soon as 2021, if that study is successful.  The Global Drugs Survey even lists molly as one of the most popular illegal drugs in the world.

Of course, there’s the famous come down, as your brain gets used to having less happy chemicals in your brain in the day or two that follow taking MDMA. This is something that one woman who spoke to the Metro really disliked and put her off the drug forever.

"I thought it was funny that we were all taking 'E's n Cheese' together and we did have a real laugh on the night," she said. "But the come down I had was absolutely terrible, perhaps because I do not have a partner to go home to and get a big hug from it was worse for me. I still felt incredibly sad on the Tuesday night after taking it at the weekend, I will never be doing it again."
