On Friday morning, police responded to reports of shots fired at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, NBC Los Angeles reports. Fox 11 claimed that a police scanner reported that a teacher texted about a possible shooter in the library, possibly with a long gun.

Rougly one hour after the first shots at Highland High school were reported, the Sherriff's Department announced that one person had been detained. The LA Times also reported that one person has been hospitalized.

Soon after responding to Highland, the Sherriff's Department also responded to shots fired at Manzanita Elementary School, also in Palmdale, at about 7:30 a.m. local time. Manzanita Elementary is located about eight miles away from Highland High School. However, deputies searched the school and found no evidence of a crime there.

Gigi Graciette, a Fox 11 reporter, tweeted that the suspected shooter at Highland High School is 14 years old.

Several Highland students took to social media this morning to alert other students to not show up to school.
