Well, Twitter is officially over. It was certainly fun while it lasted, but it’s time for us to shut it all down because the phrase “Mitch McConnell claps back…” is something that should never be written ever again.
But since we’re here, let’s dive into the madness. Don Blankenship was a West Virginia Senate candidate running a pretty ridiculous platform that went viral in the past couple weeks. His pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro-xenophobia, and anti-Mitch McConnell platform garnered major attention, mostly because of one ridiculous ad where he talks about McConnell’s scheming with “China people” in reference to his marriage with fellow politician Elaine Chao. Please watch this horrible/hilarious video below.
In the ad, Blankenship also attacks McConnell, coining the phrase “cocaine Mitch" and calling him a “swamp captain.” Gotta love that colorful campaign jargon.
For better or worse (definitely better), Blankenship dropped out of the West Virginia Senate primary last night after receiving only 19 percent of the vote. This, as The AV Club pointed out, is when good ol' Mitch saw his opportunity to be petty as hell. The Kentucky senator’s team posted a Photoshopped photo of “Cocaine Mitch” taken from a cocaine-littered ad for Narcos, a Netflix series about Mexico’s infamous drug cartels.
Basically this 2018 election cycle is going just fine.
Just kidding, everything is awful. Even the Netflix show agreed Mitch’s team took this one too far.
