Donald Trump says the right to bear arms won't ever be changed. Specifically, he stressed on Twitter that "the Second Amendment will never be repealed" on Wednesday.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT WILL NEVER BE REPEALED! As much as Democrats would like to see this happen, and despite the words yesterday of former Supreme Court Justice Stevens, NO WAY. We need more Republicans in 2018 and must ALWAYS hold the Supreme Court!

The New York Times reports the tweet came after two days of silence following the weekend's March for Our Lives demonstrations in Washington, D.C. and other United States cities.

Trump's tweet is likely in response to a recent New York Times opinion piece. On Tuesday, former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens penned a Times op-ed that called to repeal the Second Amendment following a historical analysis of American gun laws.

Despite always siding with conservative gun lovers, Trump has always had a reactionary view on the gun debate. Following the Parkland shooting, he called for teachers to be armed with guns to prevent future school shootings.

Repealing the Second Amendment would ultimately require Congressional approval, which has not recently been proposed.
