Elizabeth Warren Insists She Isn’t Running for President in 2020

Elizabeth Warren remains solely focused on her upcoming Senate run, as opposed to a possible presidential run in 2020. But as we all know, nothing is set in stone.

Elizabeth Warren has plenty of things on her plate at the moment, but none of them pertain to a potential presidential run in 2020. Or, at least, that’s what she wants us to believe. When asked during her appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press about a possible play for the Oval Office, Warren remained adamant that her primary focus was on her upcoming Senate run.

“So look, I am not running for president of the United States,” Warren said, per the Boston Globe. “I am running for the United States Senate. 2018. Massachusetts. Whoohoo.” Meet the Press host Chuck Todd countered her statement by speculating if she would also commit to all six years if she were to win re-election. Warren reiterated her initial claim, adding that she has “no intention” of running for president.

Todd continued pressing on, pointing out that numerous presidential candidates have taken up a similar stance just two years before an election. “I am in this fight to retain my Senate seat in 2018,” Warren responded. “That’s where I’m focused. That’s where I’m going to stay focused. I’m not running for president.”

The latest interest in questioning whether or not Warren has her sights set on a 2020 run is the result of Donald Trump, who mentioned that “ratings” would go down if her or Bernie Sanders were to run for president at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

A presidential campaign is a long, grueling process, and it’s a decision that cannot be taken lightly. The Democratic Party will hopefully have a great candidate to face Trump or Mike Pence in 2020. However, that candidate hasn't shown their face just yet. As Todd pointed out, many past presidential candidates haven't come to a decision two years before an election. Give Warren some time.
