Following reports of Donald Trump’s bigoted comments about “shithole” countries, NBC News published a story that confirms what everyone already knew: Our president is not only racist, he’s also pretty sexist.

The outlet describes an alleged incident in which Trump repeatedly asked a U.S. intelligence analyst where she was from. The Asian-American analyst, who was briefing the president on a hostage situation, told POTUS she was from New York; however, that wasn’t the answer Trump was looking for. He questioned her again, specifically asking about her hometown. The woman replied, “Manhattan.”

Trump was relentless. As reported by NBC News:

He wanted to know where “your people” are from, according to the officials, who spoke under condition of anonymity due to the nature of the internal discussions.

Is the anecdote troubling? Of course. Is it surprising? Not at all.

Trump’s alleged exchange with the analyst suggests he doesn’t believe racial minorities can legitimately be from America, despite the fact that many are born here. If you’re a non-white U.S.-born citizen who is asked where you’re from, Trump likely expects you to respond with one of the countries he considers to be a “shithole.” And the fact that he implied the woman’s race should factor into her career path … well, racists are gonna racist.

The White House has yet to respond to NBC’s report. You can read it in full here
