Vanity Fair’s political vertical The Hive is being slammed after the site posted a video in which staff talk about Hillary Clinton.

The video took a snarky approach to advising the former Secretary of State to lay her political ambitions to rest. "Take up a new hobby in the New Year: Volunteer work, knitting, improv comedy – literally anything that will keep you from running again," said Vanity Fair writer Maya Kosoff while holding a champagne glass. Another staffer poked fun at Clinton’s defeat in the 2016 Presidential election by saying, "Put away your James Comey voodoo doll. We all know you think James Comey cost you the election, and maybe he might have, but so did a handful of other things. It’s a year later and time to move on."

The video quickly made its rounds on social media and angered many, who thought the comments to be sexist and promoting a double standard.

Don't tell Vanity Fair, but Hillary Clinton is again the country's most-admired woman according to the annual Gallup poll.

Others called out the publication for taking a shot at Clinton’s career.

Thanks @Eviljohna. And thanks to my friends/followers for amplifying your tweet about #CancelVanityFair. Suggesting the first woman to be a major party presidential nominee should take up knitting is a stunning lack of judgment on @VanityFair's part. Especially to end 2017. https://t.co/sWhhpLgyss

So @VanityFair decided that the best way to end 2017 was to take a repulsive cheap shot at @HillaryClinton, one of the most accomplished women in the history of the United States.

Now #CancelVanityFair is moving.

This is so nasty and sexist. Attaching a photo of the very last issue I will ever buy. @Bros4America @JoyAnnReid @maddow @joanwalsh @jmpalmieri @RobbyMook @HillaryClinton @MSNBC @morningmika @funder pic.twitter.com/1Y7M8Nt0g9

Clinton’s former adviser, Peter Daou propelled the hashtag #CancelVanityFair.

Some even resorted to burning copies of the magazine.

Following the blunder, and after some staffers attempted to explain that the video was taken out of context (it was part of a series of parody videos directed at other figures including Donald Trump), Vanity Fair issued an apology. "It was an attempt at humor and we regret that it missed the mark," Beth Kseniak, a spokeswoman for Vanity Fair, told several outlets.
