Shooter Dead After Killing Multiple People at New Mexico High School

Multiple people are dead following a shooting at a high school in New Mexico.

Local authorities said two victims lost their lives at Aztec High School Thursday, the Associated Pressreported. The shooter has also been confirmed as dead. The victims were students, but it was not immediately clear whether the shooter attended Aztec High School.

San Juan County deputies and nearby police departments responded to Aztec High School Thursday morning after receiving reports of a shooting. The school was then placed on lockdown and evacuated. At the time of this writing, the school grounds have been cleared and students were being moved to another location via bus to be picked up by their parents. No additional injuries have been reported by local hospital officials.

The lockdown was lifted for the Bloomfield Schools district by 10 a.m. local time, the Bloomfield Police Department said.

The investigation is being handled by state police and federal authorities. According to the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, a detailed press release regarding additional details on the shooting will be released at the discretion of state and federal authorities.
