Breaking news: Monopoly is not real life.

A Minnesota man learned that lesson the hard way this past weekend when Dakota County Deputy Mike Vai stopped the unidentified man at a traffic stop and discovered he had an outstanding controlled substance warrant. According to CNN, Deputy Vai placed the man under arrest, but the man came prepared for the situation. Or at least, he thought he did. He handed the cop a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from a Monopoly board game—and actually expected it to help him get out of going to jail.

Of course, the card did absolutely nothing to help him. He was still arrested and his bail was set at $5,000. But it did provide the police officers who heard about the ordeal with a few laughs. The entire Dakota County Sheriff’s Office was entertained by the whole ordeal, and they even posted a photo of the famous Monopoly card on their Facebook account while giving the man an "A" for effort.

While it’s unclear whether the man has been released on bail or not, clearly the effort didn’t count for much. But hey, good news! The man was allowed to keep his Monopoly card. So at least he's got that going for him, right?
